Cathy Melton
Director of K-12 Economic Education

Cathy grew up in Lexington, Kentucky where she graduated from Henry Clay High School. After two years at Westhampton College, she graduated from the University of Kentucky earning a Bachelors Degree in History. She later earned a Masters in Education degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and began teaching at Collegiate in 1980. After 30 years in the classroom, serving as both History Department Chair and Liaison to the E. Angus Powell Endowment for Economic Education, Cathy was appointed Director of K-12 Economic Education at Collegiate.In 2012, she served as the Director of the Powell Economic Education Foundation and The Cochrane Summer Economics Institute. Cathy has initiated several economic based programs into the K-12 curriculum: collaborating with International Education to incorporate global economic case studies into the Emerging Leaders Conference, The Golden Cougar Savings Bank, and the 7th grade Entrepreneurship Club Market.

Michelle Logan
Project Manager of the Cochrane Summer Economics Institute

Michelle grew up in Richmond, Virginia graduating from Collegiate School in 1998. She attained a Bachelors in Business Administration degree from James Madison University. Following graduation she pursued a career in investment banking with Wachovia Securities in Baltimore. During this time, she developed an interest in entrepreneurial prospects involving health maintenance. After leaving Wachovia, she completed a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from American University in preparation for integrating her business background with her interest in health maintenance and entrepreneurial possibilities. She worked as a healthcare consultant while opening Richmond Balance, a fitness center in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom neighborhood. Most recently, she and her husband opened Logan Aggregate Recycling an onsite concrete recycling company. Michelle joins us at the Powell Economic Education Foundation to assist Cathy Melton in administering the Cochrane Summer Economics Institute.
